Stereo optical tracking
Two RGB cameras support stereo tracking. Passive markers identify patient references and instruments to support navigation.
Introducing iMIRGE NightHawk
A portable surgical navigation platform in development, combining stereo optical tracking, MEMS laser projection and AI-assisted planning.
The clinical starting point
External ventricular drains (EVDs) relieve dangerous pressure in the brain after trauma, hemorrhage or hydrocephalus. In emergency and intensive-care settings, placement often relies on anatomical landmarks.
NightHawk is being developed to bring imaging-based planning and navigation to the bedside, with a compact platform designed around practical clinical workflows.
The NightHawk platform
NightHawk combines optical tracking, projected laser information and image-based planning in a portable system.
The development program brings together clinical insight, navigation engineering and AI expertise.
Two RGB cameras support stereo tracking. Passive markers identify patient references and instruments to support navigation.
Integrated laser MEMS technology is being developed for surface mapping, registration and trajectory visualization.
CT-based planning algorithms, developed in collaboration with the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (AMII), assist with EVD target and entry-point identification.
A removable tablet and IV-pole docking are designed to support setup, image review and planning close to the patient.
Development progress
Our current program centres on the initial EVD application, bringing prototype engineering, AI-assisted planning and verification into a coordinated development pathway.
Completed / October 2026
Feedback from the October 14 meeting informed the initial EVD focus, predicate strategy and planned 510(k) pathway.
Planned / Q1 2027
A planned pilot will evaluate technology function and workflow in clinical settings, subject to applicable approvals.
Subsequent milestones
Further engineering, verification, validation and human-factors work will support preparation for regulatory submission.
Additional patent filings address laser MEMS technology and AI software enhancements. NightHawk remains in development and is not available for commercial sale. Clinical performance and regulatory clearance remain to be established.
